"First Due" in Gloucester Township
On June 9, at 20:05, while responding to a FAST Unit Assignment at the Gloucester Township Municipal Building in Chews Landing, Engine 691 was redirected to a reported dwelling fire on the Black Hose Pike in the Blenheim section of the Township. Initial reports indicated a working fire and possible people trapped. Command 830 reported a 2 1/2 story vacant dwelling with heavy smoke showing from the second floor and attic. Engine 691 laid into the job with LDH and attack the fire using three 1 3/4 " attack lines. CFM 13 made a primary search for victims that came up negative. A secondary search proved the same. Crews made a quick knock down of the fire and performed extensive overhaul. The high temperature affected a number of the fire personnel and Command 830 requested additional resources for manpower. One fire fighter from Station 691 (Engine 691) suffered heat exhaustion and was taken to the hospital by Gloucester Township EMS. After several hours of fluids and tests, he was later released.
